Abbexa offers an extensive range of Small Molecules, including Biochemicals and PEG Reagents, for scientific use only.
PEG, which stands for polyethene glycol, is an ethylene oxide polymer. Polyethene oxide (PEO) and polyoxyethylene (POE), share the same chemical structure as PEG but differ in molecular weight and application. These are extensively used in nanotechnology, material and biological research, as they are generally biocompatible, non-toxic and stable in both organic and aqueous solutions. In biological research, PEGs can have many other applications, including the bioconjugation of cells into hybridomas for antibody production, vaccine or nanoparticle delivery, drug formulation and fluorescent labelling.
Proteins with PEG chain modifications and compounds encapsulated in PEG liposomes exhibit a longer half-life in vivo than their non-PEGylated counterparts, a phenomenon known as PEG shielding. Functionalised PEG lipids and phospholipids can be used for protein-PEG conjugation.
