Optimised corrosion-proof design for chemical resistance and operator safety
The PPX is an innovative addition to Clean Air’s extensive range of metal fume cupboards – it’s constructed almost entirely from copolymer polypropylene. This robust, high-performance solution is designed to meet stringent safety and durability standards.
Pioneering CFD Design for Lab Safety
The PPX is the world’s first fume cupboard to be fully designed, type-tested and optimised using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This digital modelling has enhanced its containment by 70%, improving operator safety. Comparative testing in line with BS EN14175-3 demonstrates that the PPX achieves excellent containment properties, matching those of standard metal construction fume cupboards. It meets the highest classification for “Good achievable containment results – Higher hazards, e.g. Research/Commercial” at Face Velocity of 0.4m/s and above, as often required in research and commercial environments.
Eliminating Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6)
Designing and testing with CFD is not only more accurate but also more sustainable. The fume cupboard industry uses SF6 – the most damaging greenhouse gas – as standard for type-testing. By employing CFD, the PPX is SF6-free!
Corrosion-Resistant Plastic
The minimal metal components in the PPX are securely isolated and limited to parts of the electrics, wiring and services. For maximum strength and longevity, it’s fabricated using a combination of folding, and plastic welding and bolting techniques, ensuring a stable, long-lasting structure.
Polypropylene’s chemical resistance makes the PPX fume cupboard ideal for applications involving organic solvents and most acids and bases (excluding strong oxidising acids. It’s a highly reliable and chemically resistant choice for demanding laboratory environments.
