Many chemical processes include storage tanks where process fluids enter and leave. A real-time measurement of the interfaces between the fluids in these tanks can provide operators with data to optimise process conditions. A Proximion sensing fiber deployed vertically within the tank provides a high-resolution temperature profile of the fluid column, from which the fluid interfaces can be determined in real-time. One such fluid monitoring case study from a kraft pulping process is described in the linked case study. The data presented show how the interfaces between oil and soap and air in a tall oil tank are clearly visible. We are also customising similar fluid level measurement systems to address challenges in the chemical and other industries, working at ultra-high temperatures down to cryogenic.
