Several of our staff members participated in a morning beach clean at one of our local beaches in July 2024. We collected a range of debris mostly small fragments of plastic which have washed up on the shore; crisp/sweet wrappers, small toys, fishing rope and more. At Alpha we understand the impact the company has on the environment, therefore, engaging our staff in events such as our beach clean are a great way to bring these impacts to reality. We encourage staff to abide by sustainable behaviours both in and out the office, setting a culture of care, accountability for our impact.

Warsash Tree Planting 2022 is one of our contributing sustainability projects, in collaboration with the Hampshire Countryside Service and Hampshire County Council, is to help plant native oak trees in the local region. This forms part of the Queens Green Canopy, a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. At the end of 2022, volunteers from the Alpha Laboratories team planted 75 oak trees at a local Site of Special Scientific Interest, as part of the Warsash Legacy Project. This will have a number of positive environmental benefits such as improving the area for migrating Brent geese, supporting wildlife and sequestering approximately 100,000 Kg of carbon over the next Century

Our ongoing partnership with Shakespeare school has allowed Alpha to really get involved in a range of projects over the last several years. Donations and contributions have been made across the years to projects involving; fencing replacements, the development of a sensory garden, refurbishment of the working kitchen and practical room, new outdoor astroturf, and installation of new sanitary system. Staff have also volunteered time towards; cleaning and setting up the practical room and kitchen, running working parties and microscope sessions for students, and general grounds maintenance.
