UKAS – Optical Calibration Assessor (Contract Role)

If you are an experienced professional in Optical Calibration seeking a flexible contract role, we have an opportunity for you. We are actively looking for independent Technical Assessors to work with UKAS, contributing your expertise to ensure the highest standards in laboratory assessments across the UK. As this is a Technical Assessor position, it may be undertaken alongside your current employment, subject to approval from your employer.

Key Responsibilities:
As an external Technical Assessor, you will play a crucial role in the UKAS assessment process, providing expert knowledge and ensuring rigorous, quality-driven assessments. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your extensive experience and work collaboratively within a respected Internationally recognised accreditation body.

We are seeking individuals with experience in any of the following areas:

• Optical Measurements: Specialised knowledge of optical calibration involving filters, bulk materials, liquids, reflective tiles, lenses, light sources (tungsten, LEDs), lasers, fibre optics, and other relevant devices.
• Fibre Optic Devices: Full awareness of challenges related to different wavelengths, including experience with fibre optic lenses, light sources, connectors, and joints.
• Laser Calibration: Understanding of various laser types, associated hazards, and practical calibration techniques.
• Optical Device Applications: Knowledge in related fields such as spectrophotometry, refractometry, photometry, and ophthalmology.

Additional Desirable Skills:

• Familiarity with data transfer and modulation techniques for fibre optics.
• Hands-on experience in fibre optic connections and assembly.
• Awareness of quality management systems and their application in a laboratory environment.

Required Experience:

• Proven experience in optical and/or fibreoptic calibration or testing within a measurement laboratory or similar environment.
• Practical expertise across one or more optical calibration branches, such as spectrophotometry, refractometry, colourimetry, lasers, or photometry.
• Experience working with quality systems is advantageous but not essential.
