Climate Change Will Fuel Infectious Diseases Spread

An expert team for infectious diseases has warned the medical field to prepare to deal with the spread of diseases as a direct result of climate change. The recent article published raises the alarm about the rise and spread of harmful pathogens and is urging the medical community to update their education and training to take steps to combat global warming.

Lead author of the article, George R. Thompson, stated, “Clinicians need to be ready to deal with the changes in the infectious disease landscape.” He has encouraged physicians to maintain a high index of suspicion to improve our understanding of the diseases.

The study then looked into an evaluation of pathogen and fungal infections, specifically on diseases carried by vectors such as mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks.
