The University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) has been awarded the prestigious ISO 17025 certification for its mechanical testing laboratory. This gold standard, granted by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), recognises the technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
The AFRC, part of both the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, has previously earned ISO 17025 for three other mechanical testing techniques, including elevated compression testing at temperatures up to 1100°C.
This latest accreditation adds to the centre’s ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 45001 for health and safety standards. Michael King, the AFRC’s material science lead, noted that achieving ISO 17025 reinforces the centre’s world-class research capabilities and boosts confidence in its services.
By integrating cutting-edge mechanical testing into their research, the AFRC provides valuable insights to manufacturers across various industries.
