Extra-terrestrial invader downgraded to a truck
Vibrations that were picked up at a remote seismic station over a decade ago, attributed to a meteor, have recently been theorized to be of less significant origin.
A new report from the team at US John Hopkins University has now argued that the sound waves reported in 2014 on Papua New Guinean Manus Island were originally misinterpreted. The original argument stated that the sound waves were mysteriously caused by the meteor that entered the Earth’s atmosphere at the same time as the sound waves. However, it has now been discovered that the vibrations were probably from a truck traveling along the road near the station.
Benjamin Fernando, head seismologist of the new report, stated, “It’s really difficult to take a signal and confirm it is not from something. But what we can do is show that there are lots of signals like this, and show they have all the characteristics we’d expect from a truck and none of the characteristics we’d expect from a meteor.”
